Description

Fiber optic gun sights

These fiber optic gun sights from CADtec3D are supplied as a cost effective 3D printed Sight.

The Mk 2 performs exactly the same as the Mk1. The MK1 is fully machined from an aluminium extrusion and both aluminium and machining is very expensive hence the Mk1 sight on its own costs £59.99, the Mk2 sight on its own costs £39.99

Both sights perform exactly the same. The difference between the two is the manufacturing method. There is a benefit apart from the cost buying the Mk2 and that is the weight. The Mk1 weight 60 grams and the Mk2 weighs only 16 grams.

What do you get with the PRO version of this Sight? Well apart from the handy utility box that keeps your Sight and accessories in a convenient place, you get an additional colour Fibre Optic, an Allen key to release and change optics in a few seconds, a spare screw, but the main feature contains accuracy enhancing sight Chokes.

These fiber optic gun sights have a large 5mm Dia fibre optic light pipe giving generous amounts of light. The larger the diameter the brighter and clearer the Sight picture. As with most things, there is an Upside and a Downside. The downside to having a large viewing aperture is the “FOV” field of view is larger and that means a wider angle to vision cut-off. When you see the circle of light, that is perfect alignment. If your gun is off axis the circle turns to an ellipse. The more the gun is off axis the smaller the ellipse gets. The ellipse is still superimposed on the target, but the gun barrel axis is not. You want to minimise the vision cut-off angle.

SGS-100 Mk2 has a 5mm Dia Sight picture (Upside), the Downside is a large vision cut-off angle. The PRO comes with 3 Sight Chokes: 3.5, 2.5 & 1.5mm apertures. I guess this depends on your eye’s ability to resolve detail but the Sight chokes will enable you to balance what you can see depending on your personal abilities AND the amount of ambient light available on the day.

Big aperture, More light, more error.
Small aperture, Less light, less error.

Choosing the Choke that works best for you depending on your own viewing resolution limits and lighting conditions on the day can maximise your shooting accuracy.
The chokes are 3D printed in PLA and are super lightweight. Each choke weighs approx. 0.4 grams. All you need to fit these chokes is a Key which is supplied in the utility box. You now have options you didn’t have before.

These fiber optic shotgun sights also solve Ocular / Cross eye dominance also!

Solving Cross Eye Dominance is critical to your success as a shooter. But how do these Fibre Optic Shotgun Sights solve cross eye dominance?

In essence we “force” the shooter to use the correct eye. That sounds a bit severe but the shooter won’t even know its happening.

What is the correct eye? Well that depends on what shoulder you mount the gun on, not what your dominant eye is.

If you mount your fiber optic gun sights on the right shoulder, you should use the “right eye”.

How we solve cross eye dominance using this fiber optic gun sights

If you mount your fiber optic gun sight on the left shoulder, you should use the “left eye”.

Why? Because the eye “nearest” to the shoulder the gun is mounted on is doing the alignment. EYE + BEAD + TARGET are aligned in each scenarios above.

Its got nothing to do with dominant eye, just the correct eye. Well only if you use this sight because as we said in the introduction, we force the shooter to use the correct eye and it happens because the fibre optic is buried deep inside the sight body. You can only see the fibre optic if you look axially into the body. The eye nearest the shoulder the gun is mounted is the only eye that “can” look axially into the sight, the other eye is prevented from viewing the fibre optic by the actual Sight Body. That is due to the interpupillary spacing of the eye (approximately 64mm).

So, when shooting with both eyes open, you will only see one image of the fibre optic, irrespective of what shoulder you mount the gun on and irrespective of whether you are left or right eye dominant. It will always be the “correct eye” that does the alignment.

______________

If you don’t use this Sight and use a conventional Bead you will be able to see the bead from both eyes simultaneously with both eyes open. The consequence of being “cross eye dominant” means that one of the eyes will be the dominant eye. So you actually see 2 images of the bead, one from each eye. The brain will only select one of the images, that will be the brightest / clearest image.

Using a conventional bead with gun mounted on your right shoulder and being left eye dominant and due to the eye separation, your brain will align the left EYE + BEAD + TARGET and as far as the shooters is concerned, the EYE, BEAD and TARGET are all in line and assumes that when you pull the trigger, what is in line is what gets shot. Clearly, as shown in the image below, the gun is looking at a totally different line of sight.

How we solve cross eye dominance in technical terms with these fiber optic gun sights

This is what you actually see from each eye using our fiber optic gun sights

It doesn’t matter if you are Left or Right eye dominant, you only see the Fibre Optic from the correct eye, and that is the eye nearest to the gun! The complete opposite happens if you mount your gun on the other shoulder! The SGS-100 Shotgun Sight is ambidextrous!

This is how we solve cross eye dominance.

Many shooters are aware they are cross eye dominant and to try to solve the problem by closing one eye. As mentioned earlier, this caused another massive problem. What that does is to ensure the EYE + BEAD + TARGET was all in line as it should be, BUT they are now without the ability to judge distance and speed having lost the phenomenon of stereoscopic vision.

Shooting a moving target requires two MUST HAVE attributes: A) The ability to judge distance, B) The ability to judge speed. There is only one way you can achieve both those attributes and that is to shoot with both eyes open. The error at range is considerable if you are not aware you are cross eye dominant. Assuming the Bead is 650 mm from your eye (at the end of the barrel) and your left eye is 64 mm from your right eye, that subtends an angle of error of 5.5 degrees.

At a range of 30 Metres, this equates to an error of 2.9 Metres (114″). So, if you know you are cross eye dominant, and you want to keep your stereoscopic vision, these Fibre Optic Shotgun Sights from CADtec3D is the answer!
